The Water / Wastewater / Environmental Division is responsible for compliance with County, State and Federal regulations pertaining to water quality this includes the Federal Clean Water Act and Safe Drinking Water Act.
Drinking Water (Production)
Is responsible for all annual drinking water sampling at the Point Of Entry (POE) after disinfection of each well in the City and reporting the results to the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ). Inorganic Chemicals are sampled in accordance with Arizona Administrative Code (AAC) R18-4-206, 207, 208, &209, Volatile Organic Chemicals AAC R18-4-211, 212, & 213, Synthetic Organic Chemicals AAC R18-4-215 & 216 and Radiochemicals AAC R18-4-217. Source Water Assessment Program (SWAP)
Based on a mandate set forth in the 1996 amendments to the Safe Drinking Water Act, the ADEQ evaluated each water source used by the public water systems in Arizona. The quality of ground water being drawn was assessed along with land use activities and hydrogeology. ADEQ gave the City wells a low risk designation. Drinking Water (Distribution)
Is responsible for all monthly and quarterly drinking water sampling through out the distribution system and reporting the results to ADEQ. In accordance with the AAC R18-4-202, the City samples for monthly Total Coliform bacteria (presence or absence). In accordance with AAC R18-4-214.02 quarterly sampling of disinfection by-products, Total Trihalomethanes and Haloacetic Acids are sampled by the City. Lead and Copper (Tap Water Monitoring) sampling has been reduced to every three years instead of the annual sampling in accordance with AAC R18-4-310 All samples are submitted to a State Certified lab for analysis.
Wastewater
The Wastewater Division operates a state-of-the-art Water Reclamation Facility. Division duties include daily laboratory testing, hourly monitoring of plant operation control, repair of operating equipment and management of the City’s outsourced solids handling program. They are also responsible for all compliance according to the Aquifer Protection permit and the Arizona Pollution Discharge Elimination Systems permit (AZPDES) for effluent discharge at the outfall in the Agua Fria River. In addition, the Wastewater Section is responsible for all monitoring of the Managed Recharge Facility located in the Agua Fria River bed.
The Wastewater Collection section is responsible for all compliance according to the AAC R18-9-C305 of the Aquifer Protection Permit Program.
Storm Water
The Storm Water Section is responsible for all compliance; monitoring and management of Storm Water run off according to the National Discharge Elimination Systems (NPDES) general permit.
