Business License & Tax Information
Any business wishing to locate within the City limits must contact our Planning Department regarding the zoning designation before beginning the licensing process. The Planning Department can be reached by email or by phone at (623) 876-2935.
Any business or individual seeking to transact business within the City is required to obtain a Business License prior to transacting business, regardless of where the business is located. The City charges a nonrefundable license fee at the time of the application submittal. To avoid delays, make sure you have completed all forms and submitted the license fee payment with your application. The license is renewable each calendar year.
SPECIAL REGULATORY BUSINESSES
Special regulatory businesses are required to furnish additional information. These businesses are Massage Establishments, Tattoo/Body Piercing, and Sexually Oriented Businesses, Off-Track Wagering, Pawn Brokers and Solicitors. The applicants must visit the city in person for fingerprinting and background checks. The applicants must be over 18 years of age. There may be a fee for fingerprinting.
EXEMPTIONS
The following activities are exempt from obtaining a business license:
- Persons engaging in the sale of newspaper subscriptions.
- Non profit youth organizations, including but not limited to Boys and Girls Clubs of America, engaging in organization sponsored fund-raising activities.
- School children engaging in authorized or school sponsored fund-raising activities.
- Religious organizations engaging in distributing information regarding the beliefs of their faith.
Businesses subject to sales tax regulations must provide a Transaction Privilege Tax License (TPT) issued by the Arizona Department of Revenue. If your business already has a TPT license you will need to add El Mirage as a Program City using the update form.
All businesses operating within the city must comply with all ordinances, regulations and requirements affecting public peace, health and safety.
