Thunderbird Road Improvements
The City of El Mirage awarded a contract to Haydon Building Corporation to improve Thunderbird Road between Dysart Road and Grand Avenue. Improvements include the installation of a new water main under Thunderbird Road and the removal and replacement of asphalt from approximately 1200 feet east of Dysart Road (near the Wal-Mart signal) to Grand Avenue.

Construction will begin the week of April 14, 2008; the project is scheduled for completion in fall 2008. Construction work hours will be from 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday; hours will vary with seasonal changes. Construction crews will work weekends, if needed.

During the construction project, the contractor will maintain one lane of traffic in each direction on Thunderbird Road. Local access will be maintained for residents, businesses, school traffic and emergency vehicles. Please allow yourself extra time to get where you are going, as there may be traffic delays. In addition, do not move barricades or traffic signs as they are in place for your protection.

Dysart Ranchettes Road Improvements
The streets in the Dysart Ranchettes are currently wash-boarded, dusty and potholed. To improve the condition of the street, the Streets Department is currently applying asphalt millings on the roadway before a contractor performs a process called “cold in place recycling” to the streets. The Contractor will begin their work on May 7th and expect to complete the project on May 14th.

The “cold in place recycling” process consists of milling the existing roadway and millings, adding an asphalt emulsion, and then compacting the recycled material back on the street. This process is a cost-effective means of rehabilitating roadways which requires the use of specially designed recycling machines. There is a large milling drum that makes it possible to recycle while directly injecting an asphalt emulsion into the mixing chamber during the milling operation, ensuring excellent mixing of the stabilizing agent with the milled material. The process is carried out on a single-pass operation, enabling a high rate of production to be achieved. The benefits are a short construction period and improvements to traffic safety.
