SPECIAL MEETING OF THE COMMON COUNCIL

OF THE CITY OF EL MIRAGE

Minutes

 

 

I.                    CALL TO ORDER – Mayor Fred Waterman called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m.

 

II.                  ROLL CALL – Present were: Mayor Fred Waterman, Vice Mayor Michele Kern, Councilor Roy Delgado, Councilor Bill Conner, City Manager B.J. Cornwall, City Engineer Chris Young, Finance Director Larry Price, City Clerk Edith Hoover.  Absent: Councilor Xavier Bedolla, Councilor Rick Monzon, Councilor Tensi Reed, Attorney Fredda Bisman.  Excused: Interim Police Chief Bryan Beamish, Fire Chief Scott Alvord.

 

 

III.                SPECIAL SESSION

 

A.                 Consideration and action regarding giving the City Manager signature authority to enter into a contract for the renovation/construction of the Courthouse at the existing Youth Center.

 

City Manager BJ Cornwall stated that the lease with Maricopa County for use of the judicial court in the City of Surprise expires on December 31, 2006.

 

BJ exclaimed that he exhausted all alternatives to find another location for the court and at this time, the best decision for the City is to approve this plan which would make it the permanent home for the Court in the City of El Mirage.

 

Councilor Delgado stated that he would have liked to see three bids on the construction and renovation of the Youth Center, but because of the January 1, 2007 deadline, Councilor Delgado agreed with the single bid.

 

Councilor Delgado made a motion to approve the renovation/contrstruction of the Courthouse at the existing Youth Center; seconded by Vice Mayor Michele Kern.

 

VOTE:      Yea:                Conner, Delgado, Kern, Waterman

                  Nay:

                  Absent:           Bedolla, Monzon, Reed

                  Motion:           Carried

 

 

IV.               ADJOURNMENT

 

Vice Mayor Michele Kern made a motion to adjourn at 5:05 p.m.; seconded by Councilor Conner.

                  Absent:           Bedolla, Monzon, Reed
