2008 Election Cycle
In 2008, the electors of the City of El Mirage elected three (3) Councilmembers, each to a four (4) year term.
Also in 2008, the electors of the City of El Mirage cast their ballots on the alternative expenditure limitation – one year override (May 20th); the extension of the City’s Home Rule Option (alternative expenditure limitation) (November 4th); and the question of selling bonds for the construction of a Fire Station, improvements to Gateway Park and street improvements (November 4th).
As with all elections in the City of El Mirage, the possibility exists that all seats will be filled at the September 2, 2008 Primary and no General Election will be held in November 4, 2008 for local candidates. If any candidate receives 50% of the number of ballots cast plus 1 vote, that candidate is deemed elected. If no candidate received 50%+ or in case of a tie, the candidates with the highest vote totals (not elected) will be placed on the November 2008 General Ballot. The run-off (if required) ballot for the November 2008 election will contain at least one more candidate’s name than there are openings on Council. All candidates elected in 2008 will assume office in December 2008.
