2010 Election Cycle
In 2010, the electors of the City of El Mirage elected a Mayor to a four (4) year term; three (3) Councilmembers, each to a four (4) year term; also due the resignation of a sitting Councilmember, one (1) Councilmember to a two (2) year unexpired term.
Also in 2010, the electors of the City of El Mirage cast their ballots on the City’s General Plan Update and on a City Code Amendment that would require the City Councilmembers to be elected by District.
As with all elections in the City of El Mirage, the possibility exists that all seats will be filled at the August 24, 2010 Primary and no General Election will be held in November 2, 2010 for local candidates. If any candidate receives 50% of the number of ballots cast plus 1 vote, that candidate is deemed elected. If no candidate received 50%+ or in case of a tie, the candidates with the highest vote totals (not elected) will be placed on the November 2010 General Ballot. The run-off (if required) ballot for the November 2010 election will contain at least one more candidate’s name than there are openings on Council. All candidates elected to a four (4) year in 2010 will assume office in December 2010. The successful candidate for the unexpired two (2) year term will be sworn into office after the canvass of the August 24th election results.
